December Meeting Notes

Hiya folks, sorry that we've taken a few days to get these notes out, but it's been busy in the MOOGLE camp as of late. We not only had our meeting but we also had a Sushi and Cosplay event right before Christmas, so the latter part of the month was crazy! Since it's a Happy New Year in Memphis right now, we figured this would be the time to share our meeting notes as well a couple of other posts to come today! Let's get started with what happened in December:

  • We agreed to change the meeting day of MOOGLE meetings for 2010 to Sundays; They will now take place after MidSouthCon ConComm meetings to allow for better time management for those who are involved in both areas. The meetings will still start up at 6pm, and we're still gonna be at Garabaldi's Pizza on Walker Ave. The Meeting Schedule for 2010 will be up after this blog post.
  • For the sake of keeping Anime discussion focused and lively, we began the process of putting together "Themed" meetings, where we will take a particular genre or subculture Anime-related and discuss it. Our members submitted potential themes which will be expounded upon in January.
  • We then screened "Desert Punk" for Funimation's Operation Anime, which needless to say, did garner quite a bit of laughs, but contained more "controversial" content than was originally anticipated. After the screening MOOGLE business was adjourned.
Questions? Wanting to get in on the action besides our monthly meetings? Travel to our Facebook page or visit the Forums.

December Meeting

Hiya folks, just wanted to let everyone know the lowdown on our upcoming December Meeting, which will take place on December 14. Here's some of the business points we'll be working on:

  • For any MOOGLE members able to make it to MidSouthCon 28 and wishing to volunteer to help with the Anime and Video Game Rooms, we will start the process of plugging everyone in.
  • We will also work on fleshing out panels for MSC as well. Some of the basics needs for each panel have been met, but we do need help with certain panels content-wise
  • As discussed after the Heroic Age Screening, we will now screen Operation Anime titles as the last part of business for the organization. For December, that title will be Desert Punk, Vol 1.
As always there will probably be more items discussed as well as general talk, plus we still have a Sushi and Cosplay event to look forward to!!! See ya at the meeting!

Heroic Age Vol 1 Screening!

Hiya folks, we're going to be holding our first Operation Anime Screening for Heroic Age Vol 1! The venue will be held at the Jones' Residence, with the date being November 29th, and a start time of 6pm, so please bring your own refreshments and please don't do anything silly (otherwise your name goes in teh Death Note, lol). The Jones' can only accommodate up to 10 peeps, so if you want in on the screening, you'll need to RSVP on the MOOGLE FB!

Be aware you will have to complete the survey after the screening!

Here's the location of the Jones' Residence:

November Meeting Notes

Hello folks, for those whom weren't able to make it to our recent November Meeting, here's what happened in a nutshell:

  • Our first Operation Anime title will be Heroic Age Vol. 1. Screening time and date will be finalized shortly, but right now we are leaning on the 29th of November.
  • We will be having a Cosplay Dinner at Seikisui Pacific Rim! It will take place on the 21st of December, with a start time of around 6pm. This will not be a business meeting like the one's at Garabaldi's, but more of a chance for everyone to relax and get some R&R, plus sushi is always nice!
  • We continued to share ideas for what titles should be shown in the Anime Room at MSC 28. As we get closer to the Con, we'll lock down what title will be shown. Keep in mind we're going for more of a old-school feel.
Stay tuned for any further developments here, on our Facebook, or the Forums. See ya at the screening!

November Meeting

Hiya folks, just wanted to share what will be the main discussion topics for our November Meeting:

  • Operation Anime: Now that we are part of Funimation's Club, it's time to pick our first title of the month. We also settle upon a screening date/time for November as well as a more permanent date/time for screenings here on out.
  • MSC Panels: Panels are starting to come together nicely along with Panelists, but more are needed. We'll figure out who to contact as well as figure out how we will handle the development process during the Winter Break.
  • December Events: We would like to do a get-together in December outside of our normal meeting before Christmas to give everyone some happy hang-out time, so we'll figure out exactly where we wanna go and when.
That's the basics of it, but there's always more going on, so if ya wanna get in on the action, you gotta show up! See ya later!

FYE Cosplay/Anime Event

Well, needless to say, the FYE event was a blast! We weren't real sure at first how much of a turnout they were gonna have, especially when most of your promotion is via word of mouth, but by 2pm, it was all gravy.

MOOGLE needless to say brought the rain, as Jasma Reed placed in the Trivia Quiz and was #2 in the Costume Contest. Jason Frazier won the Costume Contest, proving you can be a gamer and win costuming events!

Here's some pics of the event, and stay tuned for an announcement of the upcoming November Meeting!

We now have Operation Anime Power!

Everyone, I am pleased to announce that we are now a registered club with Operation Anime, Funimation's Club Support Organization!

What does this exactly mean? Well, for one, we'll be able to receive 1 Funimation DVD title per month for screening for M.O.O.G.L.E., plus we will be able to obtain discounts on the titles watched!

The DVDs recieved will not have to be returned so they can become part of the Anime Library for M.O.O.G.L.E.

As a result of this, we may need to either alter the structure of our monthly meetings to accommodate screening times or add a second meeting. This topic will be discussed at the upcoming November Meeting.

We'll also be in force up at the FYE Cosplay event handing out flyers for our next meeting, so be on the lookout, plus we may do another get-together like this sometime in December!

October Meeting Notes

Hi folks! For those who were not able to make it to the meeting, here's a rough synopsis:

  • We solidified the titling of our panels, trying to achieve a balance between staying catchy for Otaku and also bringing in the peeps attending MSC who would never know what we were trying to do before.
  • We also established a couple of "Alternate" Panels in case the stuff we initially planned fell through.
  • As MOOGLE is now running the Anime Room at MSC 28, we began the process of figuring out which titles would suit best while keeping in mind what has been played before at the most recent MSCs
  • Initialized a plan to bring some pretty cool Space-Fairing Otakus, so to speak (it's going to be a surprise).
  • Settled upon a get-together for Halloween: Cosmic Bowling at Billy Hardwick's.
We didn't really get around to Rock Band, but this was due to having so much business to discuss. Next month hopefully we'll be able to do some Tekken 6!

Stay tuned here and on the forums for more info on the Halloween get-together!

October Meeting!

Hi folks, just wanted to make sure ya'll make it to our upcoming October Meeting at Garabaldi's on Walker Ave! Here's some of what we'll be discussing:

  • Coming up with Titles and Short Descriptions for all Anime Panels for MSC 28
  • Checking up on establishing contacts
  • Discuss putting together a flyer for Group Promotion
  • If all business is settled and the Garabaldi's Mgmt. allows it, we'll finish the night with Rock Band: The Beatles
Keep in mind that there may be additional topics discussed during the course of the meeting, so the best way to get the whole shebang is to show up! Also, remember to tip the Garabaldi's Team, even if you don't order any food since they are hosting us.

Also, for those who haven't been by our Forums or Facebook page, we have a Mascot:

Questions? Just comment here and one of us will be happy to help!

Welcome to M.O.O.G.L.E.!

Hi there folks, and welcome to M.O.O.G.L.E., or to spell it out, Memphis Order of Otaku, Gamers, and Lengendary Elemental Ninjas (before you ask, Ninjas are invisible warriors of the night, hence not being included in the name, hehe).

Our basic function is to provide an outlet for Anime/Game Fans in Memphis, whether it be attending meetings, special events like MidSouthCon or MTAC, or commenting on the Blog here. We also intend to function as an educational outlet to show many Memphians the positive aspects of being an Otaku, and dis-spell many of the stereotypes that surrounds liking Anime.

Currently we hold meetings at Garabaldi's Pizza on Walker Ave. (near the U of M Campus), with the meeting time starting around 6pm until all business and activities are concluded for the night. All food and drinks are ordered separately to accommodate each member's personal funds and eating habits. Our meeting days are on Mondays, with the following being our meeting schedule for 2009:

  • October 12
  • November 16
  • December 14

Check back here often for any announcements from us regarding topics for our next meeting, or any news we come across in the world of Anime and Gaming!
